Deliveries, safety and order updates

We are thrilled you have chosen to support The Bike Project. A sincere thank you from all of us here! We want to ensure that everyone can enjoy cycling and make essential journeys by bike where needed, but we must do so responsibly. With that in mind, we have made some temporary changes to the way we work. Please read through these updates and FAQs. If you still have questions, feel free to get in touch.

Christmas Delivery update

We're so excited you're thinking of us for your festive shopping this Christmas. We are still delivering during this period. Please note final delivery deadlines are for bike orders placed by 13th December, and for all other products orders must be placed by 18th December to deliver by Christmas.

COVID-19 Update

For the health, safety and well-being of our team and customers, we have temporarily closed our shop in Herne Hill. We continue to operate our shop online for home delivery only, as this remains the safest way to shop.

Due to the increased demand for bikes, stricter operating procedures, additional trading challenges and external factors outside of our control, orders will take longer to fulfil than usual.

We are working hard to get your orders to you as soon as possible, but it may take up to 14 days for you to receive your order.

Yes! All of our orders are sent with Pedal Me or DHL, who’s riders and drivers have been advised to maintain a safe distance during deliveries and won't require you to sign for your package.

What is The Bike Project doing to keep their staff and workplace safe?

It goes without saying that the safety of our staff is a top priority. We have implemented strict procedures and proactive measures at our workshops to protect our employees. These include, to name a few, limiting the number of staff in our workshop at one time, maintaining social distance, increasing the supply of hygiene and protective products, not sharing tools and workstations and frequently cleaning and disinfecting tools, bikes, stands, door handles, other frequently touched objects. We are also making sure that staff that are most at risk or vulnerable at this time, are able to stay at home.

Is it safe to come to The Bike Project London Workshop for my bike service?

In addition to the strict procedures we have highlighted above, we will also be taking extra precautions to ensure the safety of our bike service customers. This includes cleaning and disinfecting both courtesy bikes, and customer bikes, before and after you are in contact with them. There will be contact free handover of bikes where by the customer and the mechanic remain at least 2 metres apart, as well as taking payments online, instead or cash or card payments.

What is The Bike Project doing to support its beneficiaries?

We believe that refugees and asylum seekers need bikes now more than ever to access vital services. With official guidance in place to avoid gatherings, we have taken the decision to close our doors for our weekly donation sessions for the time being, and instead we're taking bikes to them with our new bike delivery service!

We recently launched an emergency appeal, to ensure we can fund this vital work. You can read more about this here

Donating a Bike

If you suddenly have more time on your hands to clear out your garden or garage and have an old bike to donate, we would love to find it a new home! Please use our interactive map to find your nearest drop-off points. Please make sure to contact the drop-off point ahead of dropping off your bike as they may have limited opening hours and restrictions in place at the moment.

To ensure the health and safety of our drop off points and generous donors like yourself, we are operating a strict no contact bike donation process at our drop off points. It is also incredibly important that you attach a label to your bike with your name, contact number, postcode in advance, so we don’t have to complete this when you drop off your bike.

Our workshop in London is able to received donations between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday and 9am and 5pm on Saturday. Our workshop in Birmingham is currently unable to accept donations.

Got more than 10 bikes? Great! Please contact us to arrange a collection.
