Are you after fundraising ideas for charity? At The Bike Project, there are lots of ways you can get involved, and support refugees while taking on a fitness goal yourself or with friends and family.
2025 was a year of fantastic fundraisers, committed to helping more refugees and people seeking asylum to access freedom and independence. A simple bike can help refugees reach essential services, education and community spaces. Every £12 raised could buy a D-lock, £60 could buy a cycling lesson for a refugee woman, £100 could help a refugee child get to school. In 2025, our amazing team of community, challenge and DIY fundraisers raised over £34,000 for The Bike Project.
Sign up for a challenge with us and join our team of incredible fundraisers. One of them is world-record holder, Sarah Ruggins, who raised money for The Bike Project on her world record-breaking cycle of 1,677 miles (2,700 km) from John O’Groats in Scotland to Land’s End in England, and back again in five days, 11 hours and 14 minutes!
“The way that you celebrate community and inclusiveness and use the bicycle as a tool for that celebration really resonated with me.” – Sarah Ruggins
You don’t have to be a world-record breaker to support us, of course. Every mile counts. Whether you’re looking for cycling challenges to running opportunities, we’d love to welcome you to our community of people passionate about supporting refugees.

What our fundraisers have said:
“The way that you celebrate community and inclusiveness and use the bicycle as a tool for that celebration really resonated with me.” – Sarah Ruggins, LEJOGLE world record holder
“It’s a great cause and I have donated unwanted bikes in the past. I love the freedom and convenience of cycling – this was a great way of getting back into it after a few years off.” – Salman, London to Brighton Team 2025
“I am supporting The Bike Project because it’s a charity close to my heart because I’m a cyclist myself and think the work you’re doing is great” – Diego, Marathon Team 2026
“I feel that I am extremely lucky to have the cycling life that I have. Support for refugees and asylum seekers is also something I am passionate about, so to bring together these two priorities ticked all my boxes. Everyone should have the chance to experience the benefits of cycling if they wish to, for transport, for pleasure, for health and for companionship.” – Lisa Whittaker, long term fundraiser for The Bike Project, having taken on ride London and organising yearly bake sales.
“I understand how the gift of a bike and training to be confident to ride makes a huge difference”– Katie, Sisters of the Saddle Team 2025
